Curly strands are a lot like fingerprints — nearly every coil has its own unique pattern. While this means that your curls will help tou stand out from the crowd, it also makes it tricky to find the right combination of products. Here are our tried-and-tested products for smooth, defined curls…

First up, it’s important to note that curly hair isn’t just different because of the size of the curls – but also the texture. You can have coarse hair with a big wave or fine hair with tight spiral curls. The solution to looking after your strands is to whip up a customised curl concoction. People with curls and kinks might need to layer or mix products – a leave-in conditioner mixed with a styling cream, for instance – to get the results you want.

If you have waves…

You need a volumising product plus something that defines your curl pattern. A little of any product goes a long way for this type of texture, so apply sparingly.
Try: A root booster like Beauty Protector Protect & Volume + wave enhancer like Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray = luxurious, beachy tresses

If you have big spirals…

Your goal is to emphasise texture, while hiding frizz. Serums tend to provide the perfect amount of control for bigger curls, while a hairspray takes care of flyaways. After styling, spritz a little hairspray into your hands and pull your hair back as if you’re putting it in a ponytail. This helps set the curls and reduce the crunch factor.
Try: A frizz-fighting serum-cream like Bumble and bumble. Repair Blowdry + Percy & Reed Reassuringly Firm Session Hold Hairspray = defined curls

If you have small coils…

To get definition you need to boost moisture and hold. Styling creams work well layered or mixed with leave-in conditioners.
Try: A conditioning cream like PARLOR by Jeff Chastain Touchable Curl Cream = shiny, defined curls

If you have kinky curls…

Your hair is prone to breakage, so moisture is a mandatory. Oils (think jojoba, argan, and coconut) are very good for this hair type. Apply to wet and dry hair for a smooth, silky finish.
Try: Oils like HASK Coconut Nourishing Shine Oil = luscious kinks
